If a child is going to be absent from school, parents are requested to inform the class teacher beforehand. When absence is unforeseen, a note must accompany the child on return to school the following day or phone call on the day. In the event of children being absent from school for more than two days through illness, parents should contact the school office staff or class teacher.
Before & After School Care
This service may be available at the Acacia Ridge State School or the Watson Road State School, please make enquiries.
There will be a teacher on duty at our school from 8.15 a.m. each morning but NOT BEFORE THEN. Students are not to arrive at school before this time, please avail yourself of the ‘before school care’ if there is a need for your child to leave home any earlier than this time.
Illness at School
Every effort is made to contact parents if children become ill or suffer from accidents at school. Parents are urged to keep emergency contact details up to date with our office staff. All visits to the First Aid Room are recorded in our First Aid Register, with a note being sent home for significant issues or phone call to home.
Leaving the School Grounds
Children must be accompanied by an adult when leaving the grounds in school hours. If a caregiver not known to the school staff is going to collect a child during school hours, parents need to alert the school staff beforehand by phone or note that another nominated person will be calling and signing out the child.
The procedure for collection of a child is:
- Parent or caregiver nominated by parent goes to the office.
- At the office the parent or caregiver identifies himself or herself to the office staff and signs a Permission to Leave Register.
- Office staff will phone the teacher of the child concerned and alert them to the fact that a parent or caregiver is waiting in the office to collect the child.
- Parent or caregiver accompanies the child off the premises.
Children will not be permitted to return home for homework, sport clothes or lunches. We discourage children from using the school phone to request parents to bring items to school. It's all part of the process of developing responsibility.
Lost Property
We strongly urge parents to clearly mark every item of your child's so that lost property can be reclaimed or returned promptly. At the end of each term any items or articles still not collected, will be placed in the second-hand uniform pool or given to St Vincent De Paul for distribution. Children are discouraged from bringing expensive toys, cassette recorders and swap cards to school.
Money
When sending money to school please ensure you place the correct amount in a sealed envelope labelled with your child’s name, year level, amount for purpose of money.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Your teacher is always available to discuss any aspects of your child’s development with you. A brief chat is often sufficient at answer a quick question. Mornings are a very busy time with preparation and setting up for the days’ program. The end of the session is the most suitable time for a talk. However, if you wish for a more formal interview we will make a special time to do so. Please contact the school by phone for an appointment.
Parking
Parents may park their cars on the grass and gravelled area at the northern end of the Church car park. When driving in please use the Church car park entrance at all times. There is no parking on the bitumen area between the Church and the Presbytery as this is a drop off and pick up zone during the mornings and afternoons for the children. For the safety of the students, at no time are parents permitted to park in the Staff Car Park area.
Performances
During the year your child will have the opportunity to experience performances featuring drama, music, puppetry, dance and magic as well as other educational items. These performances will usually be incursions, held at our school.
School Lunches
We like to encourage healthy eating. You could send cheese, fruit, a sandwich or yoghurt. We encourage the children to drink lots of water during the day. Food stays in your child’s bag. All food that is perishable needs to have a cooler block with it to avoid spoilage, especially in the hotter months.
Your child is at school for a whole day and their bodies need to be nourished by a healthy lunch. Sandwiches, salads, rice, fruits and yoghurt etc will help to provide your child with plenty of energy.
Please do not send chips, chocolates or lollies to school.
Student Banking
Student Banking for the students is available through the Commonwealth Bank every week to encourage the children to save. If you wish your child to bank at school please return the Application form included in your Orientation Day folder or ask at the office.
Student banking day is every Wednesday.
Swimming/Ice Skating
Students from Prep to Year Seven attend swimming lessons in the first term and the fourth term. Year Six and Year Seven students also attend Ice Skating for three weeks in term four.
Toys
We do not encourage the children to bring their toys to school as they can easily be lost or broken and the staff cannot assume responsibility for any loss or damage.
Wet Day Routine
School hours do not alter on wet days. Arrangements are made within the school to accommodate children in the recess periods.
