Thank you to all the parents, family and friends that attended our Blessing and Opening last Friday.

May 8, 2012: Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day
This Sunday the parish and school communities will join together to celebrate the ‘Our Lady of Fatima’ Feast Day.

On this day in 1917, Our Lady made her first appearance to three shepherd children, Jacinta (age 7), Francisco (age 9) and Lucia (age 10), at Fatima in Portugal. The lives of the three children of Fatima were entirely transformed by the heavenly apparitions.

Students from OLOF will be involved in the Rosary from 8:30 with Mass being celebrated by Bishop Joseph Oudeman at 9:00. All are invited to join us at this celebration.

May 1, 2012: OLOF Cross Country

April 24, 2012: Archbishop Mark Coleridge
Over the holiday period our new Archbishop was announced. This is a significant event for our community. I draw your attention to a statement from Mr David Hutton (Brisbane Catholic Education Executive Director) regarding this announcement:

I am pleased to advise that Pope Benedict XVI has announced the appointment of Archbishop Mark Coleridge, currently Archbishop of Canberra–Goulburn, as the new Archbishop of Brisbane to succeed Archbishop John Bathersby.

Archbishop Coleridge was ordained a priest from the Archdiocese of Melbourne in 1974. Following a number of years of parish ministry he studied Sacred Scripture of the Biblicum in Rome being awarded a doctorate in 1992. He then lectured in scripture at Catholic Theological College in Melbourne and was Master of the College.

Archbishop Coleridge has also worked within the Secretariat of State at the Vatican and was for a time chaplain to Pope John Paul II. He was appointed an Auxiliary Bishop of Melbourne in 2002, before being appointed Archbishop of the Canberra- Goulburn Archdiocese in August 2006.

Archbishop Mark will be installed as Archbishop of Brisbane on 11 May. I look forward to welcoming him to the Archdiocese and have already written to offer the support of the Catholic educational community in his new role as Archbishop of Brisbane.

Please keep Archbishop Mark in your prayers during this time of transition.

March 8, 2012: Drop Everything & Read! (DEAR)
As 2012 is the National Year of Reading, a number of initiatives will be put in place at OLOF each month to celebrate the value of reading. This week has seen the implementation of Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) in all classrooms. It will be an opportunity for our school to have a common reading time. Special guest readers will be circulating around the classes with their favourite book! Reading is the greatest gift we can give to and share with our children!
